Mac OS 10.4 - Dial-Up Setup

Description:

The following instructions are intended to serve as an example of how to configure Mac OS 10.4 to use the UT Arlington dial-in service.  These instructions are Mac OS 10.4 specific and any Mac OS X prior to 10.4 may require minor adaptation of these instructions or may not work at all. 

To make sure your version of Mac OS X is up to date with the stable release of version 10.4, see your local retailer or Apple Computer distributor.

1.  From the Desktop Menu Bar, select Go and open your Applications folder.

2.  Open Internet Connect.

3.  Fill in the fields with the requested information.

a.  Use the Call Finder utility to locate you local access number.  Once you have identified the appropriate number, enter it next to Telephone Number.  Be aware that these numbers are not metro numbers, and that you will be responsible for any long-distance or other service charges incurred by using the numbers below. Check with your phone company to verify which, if any, of these numbers are free for you to dial.

To lookup all the access numbers, input "all" into the area code field.

Note: Periodically, some of the phone numbers may not work properly and you may receive a message about incorrect username and password. If that is the case, please try some of the other phone numbers. -->

 

b.  Enter NetID@uta.edu as Account Name:.  Substitute NetID with your actual NetID.

c.  For the Password: field, enter your current non-default password for your NetID.

d.  Place a checkmark in Show Modem Status in Menu Bar.

4.  From the Menu Bar, select Internet Connect and then Quit Internet Connect.

5.  You will be asked to save your changes.  Enter UTA Dialup in the Save As: box and then click Save.

6.  You can now establish your new connection in two ways.

a.  Use the modem icon in your menu bar to select Connect.

b.  Open up the Internet Connect application and select Connect.
