Windows Vista - Dial-Up Setup

This document describes how to setup an Internet connection through the UT Arlington Dial-up system with a modem running Point-to-Point-Protocol (PPP) under Windows Vista's Dial-up Connections.
Before using the UT Arlington Dial-In system, please read the UTA Dial-up Policy. It contains important information on proper use and limits associated with this service. Also review the latest Known Issues for UTA Dial-up.
This document assumes that the reader has a fair understanding of Windows Vista operation and that the reader has a default Windows Vista setup with a properly installed modem and a valid UTA Windows NetID and password for the UT Arlington domain.

How to Use:
- From the Start Menu select Connect To.
- Click Set up a connection or network.
- Click Set up a dial-up connection and choose Next.
- Complete the Set up a dial-up connection settings:
- In the Dial-up phone number text box, fill in the Area code and Phone number fields with the modem number appropriate for you.
Be aware that these numbers are not metro numbers, and that you will be responsible for any long-distance or other service charges incurred by using the numbers below. Check with your phone company to verify which, if any, of these numbers are free for you to dial.
- Type your UTA NetID followed by @uta.edu in the User name box as in this example: NetID@uta.edu
- Type your password in the Password box. A default password will NOT be accepted - you must use an actual password. To change your password from the default to an actual password, follow instructions http://www.uta.edu/selfservice.
- For Connection name type UT Arlington.
- Click Connect.
- Make sure that your computer's modem is connected to a working phone line, then click Dial to make a connection to the Internet. You may open your browser once you are connected to test your connection.
- To dial in to UT Arlington in the future, go to Start, select Connect To, and select the UT Arlington connection.
