UT Arlington dial-up Policy

The Office of Informational Technology began offering PPP connections on January 1st, 1999. These connections are available to anyone with a valid NetID.  You may be subject to phone charges or service charges, check with your phone company before using this service.  UT Arlington is not responsible for any charges incurred with the usage of this service.

The Help Desk does not provide any direct technical support for this service to end users.  However, users are encouraged to report any problems with the service to the Help Desk at (817) 272-2208 or helpdesk@uta.edu. Any users who call or e-mail with problems of a technical nature will be directed to this document.

No Toll Free Access

There will be no 800 or toll free access provided.

Not a Guaranteed Service

he PPP service is intended for the casual user only.  If you use the Internet heavily or are dependent upon an Internet connection for mission critical work, homework assignments, or distance education, etc.  it is in your best interest to subscribe to a commercial ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Again, this service is not guaranteed or intended to be the primary means by which Faculty/Staff and Students access the Internet or communicate when off campus.  The PPP service is often over-utilized and OIT cannot expend the resources to assure its availability.  No one is to rely on the PPP service for academic or administrative functions.

UT Arlington NT Authentication

OIT is using the UT Arlington NetID domain to provide authentication for this service.  If an end user has a valid NetID account, they can access the dial-in service with the same username and password they use to log on to campus computers but only if the end user has changed their default password first.
