Departmental Server Support

Service Offerings

Departmental Email Server Consolidation

E-mail communication, which has become commonplace in many organizations, offers the opportunity to improve the dissemination of information on campus. As part of the campus-wide re-branding process, the university has adopted an enterprise mail service called MavMail. MavMail, which is closely integrated to your NetID, offers many advantages to the campus community, including robust calendaring and global address book services.

MavMail is a preferred means of communication with your students and is a required means of communication for faculty and staff. We will assist your department in the retirement and migration of your legacy mail server to MavMail, including the preservation of your existing email addresses.

There is a one-time cost recovery fee of $1,250 for this service. This fee does include disaster recovery backups and system maintenance. This fee does not include charges for excess disk utilization, processing, or memory consumption.

Departmental Server Management and Co-location

We will help you with all of the steps involved in purchasing your server including feature and price comparison, system specification and configuration, application requirements analysis, operating system installation and application integration.

We'll provide a physically secure and reliable site to house your system and the necessary infrastructure to maintain its operation (including electrical and network connectivity, and disaster preparedness).

We'll install and maintain the operating system and any standard layered applications on your server. We may, upon further negotiation, provide the same maintenance for your application software.

There is a one-time setup fee of $1,250 for this service, which includes a software client license for the necessary data backup, an electrical hookup, and connectivity to the campus network. There will be an annual cost recovery fee associated with system administration based on the total storage capacity of your server. The fee is $2,100 minimum for the first 72GB and $35 per GB beyond that. Annual billing will fall in line with the university fiscal calendar.

Departmental Server Installation and Configuration Assistance

We will help you with all of the steps involved in purchasing your server including feature and price comparison, system specification and configuration, application requirements analysis, operating system installation and application integration. We'll assist you in installing your system at your site and provide initial installation and patching of the operating system and any standard layered applications. Your department will maintain compliance with university policies on system usage and operation.

There is a one-time fee of $1,250 for this service.

This service does not include server backups, on-going consultation or system maintenance.

Departmental Java Servlet, JSP, and ASP.Net Application Hosting

In certain circumstances purchasing a dedicated server to host an application is not cost-effective. We will host your Java Servlet, JSP, or ASP.Net application, with up to 4GB of data, on our web server cluster. For Java Servlet or JSP hosting we use the Apache Tomcat servlet container, the official Reference Implementation for the Java Servlet and Java Server Pages technologies -- developed by Sun under the Java Community Process -- running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

There is a one-time cost recovery fee of $1,250 for this service. This fee does include disaster recovery backups and system maintenance. This fee does not include charges for excess disk utilization, processing, or memory consumption.

Disproportionate usage will result in an additional annual fee.

Departmental / Non-Standard Consultation and Assistance

EOS can provide support for servers that are not maintained by the EOS staff on a per call basis for a nominal fee. The support is limited to the expertise of the EOS team and will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Please contact the Helpdesk to request this assistance.

The Server Support Agreement document describes the services that are offered. A completed agreement is required before work may begin.

We'll work with your department to develop support on projects outside of our normal operations. Please contact us via the Computing Helpdesk for more information. Note that these services are offered outside of normal service levels, and will be handled as time permits.
