Definition of Terms
Policy
A Policy is an administrative rule for the operation of the UT Arlington Web site that requires compliance.
Procedure
A Procedure is a method chosen by the University unit to implement (comply with) a Policy.
Standard
A Standard is a rule for operating Web sites and Web applications on the uta.edu domain which may be guided by a unit with suitable authority.
Guideline
A Guideline is a recommendation. Although Guidelines are important for establishing and maintaining institutional consistency, compliance is not required and carries no enforcement consequences.
Principle
Key principles must be developed such that all participants have a clear picture of the strategic direction that is desired for UT Arlington’s Web presence. Principles are a related set of high-level statements about how UT Arlington’s Web design is aligned with its business needs. They should define a foundation of concepts to elicit desirable behavior and direction for both its user community and its technology supporters.
UT Arlington Web Site
Any device connected to the UT Arlington network that provides Web-based services, an IP number beginning with “129.107,” URL (or hostname) name ending with “uta.edu” domain, or any third party partnerships which represent UT Arlington, are part of the “UT Arlington Web Site” definition, no matter its physical location.
