Web Standards Committee - Purpose and Scope

Purpose

The Web Standards Committee (WSC) oversees the entire UT Arlington Web site to foster coherence of content, functionality, design, and usability across UT Arlington’s official Web presence, including the entire uta.edu domain and third party partnerships. On approval of the President, the Committee establishes Guidelines and Standards, and recommends policies and procedures, for the strategic and long-term evolution of the Web site and all of its components.

Scope

  • The Web Standards Committee creates and disseminates Guidelines and Standards to campus Web site owners and developers.
  • The Committee does not create Policy; it may recommend or suggest policy or procedure based on the needs of the University, and it may interpret Policy with regard to a specific issue when requested. Similarly, enforcement of Policies is under the purview of the University administration, not the Web Standards Committee.
  • The Committee may recommend consequences of non-compliance (and which unit(s) could have enforcement authority over such non-compliance), but the Committee has no enforcement authority of its own.
  • The Committee is responsible for determining and documenting its processes and procedures. It is also responsible for determining and implementing the methods of communicating its existence and its processes and procedures with the wider University.
