Advising and Registration
Here at UT Arlington, all first time freshmen are advised through the University College. At New Maverick Orientation you will meet with an academic advisor, from University College, who is trained for your specific college. Your advisor will give you specific information about the curriculum and requirements for your intended major, and will help you select your first classes at the University.
Advising at orientation takes place in groups; however, there will be time for you to meet one-on-one with your advisor. Be patient – this process can take some time, but is intended to ensure that you come away with a well-balanced and appropriate schedule of classes for your first semester. After advising, students will head to the central library to register for their classes.
Class Registration will occur at the end of the orientation day after students are finished with the advising process. Students must attend the entire day of orientation to be cleared for registration. Check with the Office of Admissions or the appropriate department to make sure that all necessary test scores, transcripts, and health insurance (international students) documentation has been received and that no holds are present on your account. Orientation and academic department holds will be removed after you complete orientation. If these factors have not been attended to, your ability to register for classes could be delayed.
Spend your Spring Break doing more than getting a tan by volunteering for projects in Florida, California, New Orleans, or other locales.
