Parents and Guests

Welcome to the Maverick Community!  Your student has been accepted (congratulations, by the way!) to the University of Texas Arlington, which means you are also a valued member of our Maverick family.  New Maverick Orientation is the first step, for you and your student, on your exciting new journey.

The Division of Student Affairs and New Maverick Orientation believe it’s imperative for parents and families to be involved in their student’s journey through college. The New Maverick Orientation Parent/Guest Program is designed to acquaint parents and guests with the University and all it has to offer.

  • You’ll have the chance to ask questions of current students, faculty and staff, learn about campus resources, academic expectations and involvement opportunities and familiarize yourself with the campus.
  • The parent program occurs simultaneously with the new student program; however, there are plenty of sessions that parents and students will attend together.
  • While your student is required to attend New Maverick Orientation, the parent program is optional, but highly encouraged.

Your student will face many academic and social challenges, learn more about personal responsibility and discover their independence throughout their college career. With all of these changes and new experiences occurring alongside a rigorous class schedule, it’s natural that relationships with family members might change.  New Maverick Orientation will provide you with a deeper understanding of your student's development and will equip you with tools & resources for growing with your maturing (even when it doesn’t seem like it) student.

How Do I register for the Parent/Guest program?

Registration for the Parent/Guest program is done through your student’s orientation sign-up.  Just have your student add the correct amount of guests to their registration. The fee for the Parent/Guest Program is $35 per person (for guests over the age of 18). This fee covers program costs including, staff, materials and meals.  All orientation fees will be added to your student’s MyMav account and can be paid along with their tuition.  If guests under the age of 18 will be accompanying the student meals can be purchased in the University’s all-you-care-to eat- cafeteria for $7.75 per person.

If your student has already registered for their orientation session, you can still add a parent and guest registration to their account.  Simply ask your student to log back into the orientation registration system and add the correct amount of guests to their account.

Overnight Accommodations

New Maverick Orientation is much more than just two days of on-campus programming. The Maverick Overnight Experience keeps your student in the action and lets them experience life as a college student, even before they start classes!  The Maverick Overnight Experience provides students with overnight housing in Vandergriff Residence Hall and dinner with the Maverick Orientation Leaders. After dinner students can hang out with their new friends, participate in fun games and activities or play basketball/sand volleyball with other new students and Mav OLs.

New Maverick Orientation provides limited rooms for parents/guests that would like to stay overnight. Guest overnight accommodations can be reserved through the student registration process. The $40 overnight fee will be added to your students account, to be paid along with their tuition. Please review the following information to ensure you are prepared for the overnight experience:

  • Guest rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Residence hall rooms do not have the same accomodations as a hotel room. While linens are provided, other items such as TVs, ironing boards, radios, etc. are not provided.
  • Please pack seperatly from your student as parents/guests will not be assigned to the same room as their student.
  • All overnight guests (students and parents) are invited to dinner, but overnight programming and activities are desgined specifically for students.
