Testing
Math Placement & Calculus Readiness Testing (MPT/CRT)
This requirement must be complete prior to attending orientation. Any students who do not have this requirement complete will not be able to register for math courses at orientation.
UT Arlington determines your math placement based on your SAT or ACT math score. You also must have passed the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) math requirement. Some students are required to take the Math Placement Test (MPT) and/or Calculus Readiness Test (CRT) prior to attending orientation. See charts below:

If you are required to take the MPT and/or CRT you will need to do so prior to attending orientation. Please note that if your major is in the College of Science or you are a UT CAP student, you are required to take both the MPT and CRT unless you are exempt. All students with majors in the College of Engineering and all Gateway students are required to take both the MPT and CRT. There are no exemptions for engineering majors or Gateway students.
UT Arlington Testing Services has several dates set up for you to take the test(s) for free on the UT Arlington campus. For a list of those dates and information on registering to take the MPT/CRT please visit the Testing Services website . If you do not live in the DFW Metroplex or are unable to attend any of the listed testing dates, please contact UT Arlington Testing Services at 817.272.2362 to discuss your MPT/CRT testing options.
If you have received AP credit for math courses or have credit for College Algebra please contact Testing Services to see if that exempts you from taking the MPT and/or CRT.
