Testing For Orientation
Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
All students are required to complete the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) prior to enrolling, as stipulated by the State of Texas. The TSI requirement is a state mandated requirement, and as a transfer student there is a good chance you had to satisfy this requirement in order to attend your first institution. Many other students have satisfied this requirement with scores on tests such as the THEA, Accuplacer, SAT, or TAKS, which may have been submitted on your transcript.
Note: Students who plan to major in education have different TSI requirements and may be required to take the THEA test even if you are otherwise exempt.
If you have questions about your TSI status please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 817-272-6287 or visit the TSI website.
Math Aptitude Test (MAT)
UT Arlington utilizes a testing program to determine your appropriate math placement. Careful placement increases your chances of success in math. Qualifying SAT or ACT scores or transfer credits may exempt you from math placement testing. If not, you are required to take the Math Aptitude Test in order to register for math classes. Keep in mind when making advising appointments that scores will be available to your advisor approximately one week after the test is taken.
To determine if this test is a requirement for you and for more information on how and when to take the test please visit the Math Department website.
