Testing

The state of Texas and UT Arlington have certain requirements that must be met before students can enroll in classes. All testing requirements should be completed before attending orientation to ensure no delays when registering for classes. Please see below for more details on the specific testing requirements

Texas Success Initiative (TSI)

All students are required to complete the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) prior to enrolling, as stipulated by the State of Texas.  Many students have satisfied this requirement with ACT, SAT, or TAKS scores, which may have been submitted on your transcript. Veterans can satisfy this requirement by submitting a copy of their DD-214 form to the University Advising Center located in Ransom Hall.

If you have questions about your TSI status please contact Adriane Jones, TSI Advisor in University College at 817-272-0883 or visit the TSI website.

Math PLACEMENT Test

UT Arlington utilizes a testing program to determine your appropriate math placement, as correct placement increases your chances of success in math. Please see below for more information about who should take the Math Placement Test before attending orientation.

Students do not need to take the Math Placement Test if:

  • TSI Complete and will be enrolling in the following classes: Math 1301, Math 1302, Math 1308, Math 1325
  • Will be transferring in a college algebra class or higher from a previous institution or dual credit

Students must take the Math Placement Test before orientation if:

  • TSI Complete and would like to enroll in a class higher than Math 1325 (college algebra)

For more information about the Math Placement Test or to take the Math Placement Test please visit the Math Department website.
