Tips for Parents and Families

  • If your student is living in a residence hall, encourage him/ her to talk with a Resident Assistant.
  • Suggest exploration of opportunities for involvement in the residence hall or a student organization.
  • Recommend regular exercise and use of the Maverick Activities Center (MAC).
  • Encourage your student to participate actively in class and talk with professors about class expectations.
  • Remind your student that regular class attendance is important whether it is required or not.
  • Is your student eligible for the P.A.S.S. Program?  They provide free tutoring and other helpful  services for eligible students.  Call their office to find out more 817-272-2099.
  • Recommend to your student that he/she become familiar with all that SOAR Learning Services has to offer. Visit their website at www.uta.edu/soar.
  • Encourage your student to read the Code of Student Conduct to understand their rights and responsibilities as UT Arlington students.
  • MavsMeet:NewStudent Convocation. This official academic event welcomes new students to the University. Held in Texas Hall in the fall, it features remarks by the president, administrators, the Student Congress president, and a distinguished faculty member. The fall convocation has become a new academic tradition at the University. An after party follows with food, entertainment and live music.
  • Encourage your student to explore opportunities with student organizations at the Acrtivities Fair held in August or by visiting the Student Governance and Organizations office to find out more at www.uta.edu/studentgovernance.
