Privacy Guidelines(FERPA): Student Rights

At UT Arlington, a student has a right to:
inspect and review his or her educational records;
request and amend his or her educational records;
have some control over the disclosure of information from his or her educational records.

School Officials may not disclose personally identifiable information about students, nor permit inspcetion of their records, without written permission unless such action is covered by exceptions permitted by teh Family educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974(FERPA), also called the Buckley Amendment .

      Students at UT Arlington can restrict all or part of their directory information from relese throuh Mymav. When you choose to release any aspect of your directory inormation, none of your FERPA information will be released to any source, including publications such as campus directories.

Privacy Guidelines(FERPA): Information for Parents

At the post-secondary level, parents have no inherent right to access or inspect their son's or daughter's records, including final grades, grades on exams and other information about academic progress. The information is protected under FERPA and parents do not have access to it unlessthe student has provided express, written authorization, or unless the student is a dependent as definied in Section 152 of the Internal Revenue code of 1954.

 Students can give express written permission for their parents access to their educational record by downloading the form at http://www.uta.edu/registrar/documents/student_release_of_info.pdf and remitting it with UT Arlington identification to the Office of Admissions, Records and Registration, Room 129 Davis Hall.

Parents who wish to access their student's educational records without the express written permission of the student may provide a copy of the previous year's tax form demonstrating that the student is a dependent for tax purposes to the office of Records, University of Texas at Arlington, Room 129 Davis hall. Income data on the tax record can be redacted.

InEmergency or crisis situations, UT Arlington may release non-directory information if the insttutution determines that the information is necessary to protect the health or safety of the student of the student or other individuals . http://www.uta.edu/registrar/privacy_guideline.asp
