Keynote Speaker- James Gover

Dr. James Gover has a BS and MS in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering.  He retired from Sandia National Laboratories after a 35 year career focused on radiation effects in nuclear systems, explosively driven pulsed power development and energy subsystems development. He received the IEEE Fellow award for his work in radiation effects and the IEEE Citation of Honor for his work in public policy.  He worked for the U.S. Congress as an IEEE Congressional Fellow and IEEE Competitiveness Fellow. He is currently professor of electrical engineering at Kettering University, formerly General Motors Institute, and he serves the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society as a member of its Board of Governors and represents the VTS on the IEEE USA Energy Policy Committee.

Summary of Presentation

 

Dr. Gover will present a brief overview of the pros and cons of the various stationary and mobile energy options available - coal, natural gas, nuclear, wind, solar, geothermal, fuel cells and electric vehicles; describe the major technical problems that need to be solved and emphasize the importance of public policy in shaping nations' decisions on energy options.
