The Mark Baum Scholarship in Philosophy
The Mark Baum Scholarship in Philosophy is made possible by the generous support of Mr. Mark Baum (B.A., major in Political Science/minor in Philosophy, 1995). This scholarship is intended to support students with a strong academic record and with a clear and compelling vision of how their educational experience has shaped their lives.
Application Requirements
1. Philosophy Major with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
2. Essay to be submitted by the applicant—to include a discussion of the experiences leading up to the decision to pursue a college degree, particular educational and professional goals; importance of educational experience at UT Arlington; plans to use that educational experience in the future; and the applicant's honors, recognition, awards, and/or activities.
3. Applications must be submitted in the spring semester to the Department of Philosophy and Humanities, 305 Carlisle Hall; contact the Department for an application form and information regarding the current year's deadline.
Terms of the Scholarship
1. One, one-year, nonrenewable undergraduate scholarship for 1/2 tuition and academic fees.
2. Student must be enrolled full-time during both semesters (at least 12 hours per semester).
3. Student must write a letter to Mr. Baum no later than December 1, describing how the scholarship has enabled the student to meet his or her educational goals. It will be sent to the Dean's Office which will forward it to Mr. Baum.
4. If the recipient does not enroll in 12 hours, the scholarship will be rescinded and awarded to the alternate.
5. If the recipient changes majors, the scholarship will not be renewed for the second semester.
6. It is understood that, should the recipient change majors or fall below 12 hours after registration is closed, the scholarship will not be renewed for the ensuing semester.
7. Scholarships are to be applied to tuition and academic fees only.
