Philosophy
The Philosophy Club at UTA
The Philosophy Club meets every Tuesday during the fall and spring semesters at 12:30 p.m. in 313 Carlisle Hall. We have a brief business meeting, which is followed by discussion of some topic of philosophical interest. Around 1:00 p.m., those who are interested go somewhere off campus for lunch.
Philosophy Club Activities:
• Co-sponsor Philosophy Lecture Series (invited philosophy professors from other universities speak)
• Sponsor paper presentations by UTA undergrad philosophers
• Sponsor "field trips" to philosophy lectures at other area universities (e.g., to hear John Searle, Robert Nozick at TCU; David Armstrong at SMU)
• Arrange "field trips" to philosophy conferences in the area (e.g. North Texas Philosophical Association)
• Sponsor Philosophy Film Series (on-campus screenings of philosophical films — e.g., Derek Jarman's Wittgenstein)
• Attend (as a group) other philosophical talks on campus (e.g., Martha Nussbaum's Graduate Humanities lecture)
• Participate in Philosophy Reading Group
• Sponsor Spring Philosophy and Classics Picnic
• Organize Weekly Philosophy Club Discussion/Lunch (currently)
• Host Annual Pizza Extravanga

Philosophy Reading Group
Philosophy Reading Group — not to be confused with the Philosophy Club — is primarily intended for undergraduate philosophy students who think that they might be interested in philosophy graduate school and who want to see what serious philosophical reading and discussion are like. A number of philosophy faculty attend on a regular basis. The Group meets Friday afternoons at 2:15 p.m. in 313 Carlisle Hall to discuss whatever book chapter (or, sometimes, journal article) is on the agenda. For more information, contact Charles Nussbaum.
Classics
The Classics Club
The UTA Classics Club was founded "to foster the study of classical antiquity, to raise awareness of the importance of Classical Studies, and to facilitate academic and social contacts among kindred spirits." The club supports many classical endeavors:
• The Homerathon, an all-day reading of Homer's Odyssey
• Adventures in Antiquity, a classical symposium
• Eta Sigma Phi, a national Greek and Latin honor society
• Perseus, an interactive database on ancient Greece
