Early Physics with ATLAS at the LHC

Abstract:

The Large Hadron collider will start operation at CERN in 2007. The LHC represents the largest increase in effective energy for over 30 years.

The ATLAS experiment is also nearing completion. I will discuss some of the physics goals of ATLAS and the LHC and in particular focus on the physics results that can be anticipated during the first few years of LHC operation

Short Bio

Ph.D in 1977 from Oxford in Theoretical physics. Theoretical research on QCD and new physics signals including the seminal paper of physics at high energy pp colliders (*Rev.Mod.Phys.56:579-707,1984). Joined ATLAS in 1996.
