Wind Tunnel Testing

To compare the drag on the balls when shot or passed, basketballs were taken for wind tunnel tests with the assistance of the UTA Aerospace Engineering department (see diagram and actual photo in wind tunnel below). The wind tunnel was not designed for tests at the average speed of basketball during play - estimated to be around 15 mph. At velocities of 30 mph (approximating the highest seen in a game), no difference in drag could be detected within the sensitivity of the apparatus.
