Precision Laser Measurements in the Helium Atom: A Quantum Analogue to a Classical Coulomb's Law Experiment

Abstract:

The interactions between two electrons (Coulomb's law to zeroth order), as well as approximation methods in quantum mechanics, can be studied and tested with great precision in the helium atom. These tests serve also as a proving ground for new precision laser techniques and have implications in a wide range of physics.
