Print Ordering Guide
UT Arlington > Business Affairs > Maverick Print > Printing 101 >
The offset printing ordering process can be intimidating and confusing to those who don't know the steps. Hopefully this guide will help familiarize you with the process and make ordering with Maverick Print a little easier.
The basic steps of the document creation process are:
1 Planning (budget, materials, schedule)
2 Design (how design affects costs)
3 Pre-flighting (formatting the document for printing)
4 File transfer (getting the document to Maverick Print)
5 Proofing (Maverick Print checks document integrity)
6 Production (printing and bindery)
7 Delivery (getting the finished product back to you)
Sample Project
We will illustrate some of the concepts contained in this guide by following a sample project, the production of a UTA
Admissions recruitment brochure, which is sent to prospective UTA students.
The brochure uses five colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, black and a "spot color" -- PMS 293 (Pantone Matching System) (the official UTA blue used on the logo, text boxes, and highlighted text); It involves bleeds (the ink goes all the way to the edge of the card); part of the card is "screened" (the gray text boxes are printed with black ink, but appear gray); and they must be cut from a larger sheet on which several brochures are printed and then folded to the finished size.
