Chapter 2 Student Conduct and Discipline
Subchapter 2-300 Disciplinary Actions

Assessing the disciplinary penalty will include consideration of the nature of the conduct involved, the circumstances and conditions that existed at the time the student engaged in such conduct, the results that followed as a natural consequence of such conduct, and the prior disciplinary record of the student. Any one or more of the penalties listed below may be imposed upon a student who has engaged in proscribed conduct:
  1. Disciplinary probation;
  2. Withholding of grades, official transcript, or degree;
  3. Bar against readmission or drop from current enrollment and bar against readmission;
  4. Restitution or reimbursement for damages or theft;
  5. Suspension of rights and privileges, including, but not limited to, participation in athletic or extracurricular activities;
  6. Grading penalty for an examination or assignment or for a course and/or cancellation of all or any portions of prior course credit;
  7. Denial of degree;
  8. Suspension from the University for a specified period of time;
  9. Expulsion (permanent separation from the University);
  10. Participation in educational programs;
  11. Revocation of degree and withdrawal of diploma;
  12. Other penalty(ies) as deemed appropriate under the circumstances.

  14. Interim Suspension.

  1. Disciplinary probation means that further violations will result in suspension or expulsion. Students who are assessed this penalty will be removed from probation automatically upon expiration of the probationary period.
  2. A bar against readmission or drop from current enrollment means that the student is dropped from enrollment and cannot reenroll until passage of a specified time.
  3. Restitution requires a student to reimburse the University for loss or damage to, or unauthorized taking or use of, property owned or controlled by the University or the U. T. System when the conduct of the student has caused or contributed to cause such loss or damage. The student shall be advised of the amount of the loss or damage and that failure to make restitution by a specified date will result in an enrollment hold until such time as restitution has been made.
  4. Suspension of rights and privileges means that a student shall not be eligible to participate in official events or activities of the University or the U. T. System, whether athletic or nonathletic, shall not join a registered student organization or participate in any meetings or activities of a registered student organization of which he/she may already be a member, or shall not be appointed or elected to or continue to function in any office or position within student government or the student newspaper or may not be inducted into or continue to participate as a member of an honorary or service organization. Students may also be barred from entering specified buildings or restricted from using particular facilities during the period of suspension. Students may be barred from residing in and entering all University owned or controlled housing, residence halls, or apartments.
  5. A grading penalty may be given when a student is found guilty of scholastic dishonesty.
  6. Suspension from the University means that during the period of suspension a student may not attend any courses for which he/she may be registered and may not enter in or on a University Facility except in response to an official summons from the Dean of Students or delegate.
  7. Expulsion from the University means that a student will be dropped from current enrollment and a permanent bar against readmission imposed.
  8. Educational programs are activities developed to expand the student's understanding of the regulation or policy and/or to help the student learn more about himself/herself in relation to the policy or the violation.
  9. Faculty disposition of a scholastic dishonesty case (form 1) means that an instructor should utilize an administrative form provided by the Dean of Students office when a student does not dispute the facts upon which the charges are based and waives their right to a formal hearing during a disciplinary meeting between the faculty member and student.
  10. Faculty referral for scholastic dishonesty (form 2) means that an instructor should utilize an administrative form provided by the Dean of Students office when a violation of University policies on scholastic dishonesty is suspected and (1) the student(s) cannot be reached to discuss the allegation(s), (2) the student(s) denies the allegation(s), or (3) the student(s) of instructor wishes to have the matter adjudicated by the Dean of Students office.
  11. Notation on transcript means that the registrar will make a permanent notation of disciplinary action that constitutes suspension or expulsion from the University.
  12. Interim Disciplinary Action means disciplinary action taken by the Dean of Students pending disposition of the allegations in accordance with Sec. 2-401 B.
