Section 37.10 of the Texas Penal Code provides that an individual is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor for knowingly making a false entry or creating a false entry by alteration of a government record. Section 37.10 also includes the offense of making, presenting or using any record, document or thing with falsity and with intent that it be taken as a genuine government record. The Penal code defines government record as anything:
- Belonging to, received by or kept by government for information; or,
- Required by law to be kept by others for information of government; (i.e., time records).
- Belonging to, received by or kept by government for information; or,
- Government is defined by Section 1.07 of the Penal code to include any branch or agency of the State and would include The University of Texas at Arlington.
