|Dunn Named Provost - The University of Texas at Arlington

Dear Colleagues:
Since becoming president of UTA in February, one of my top priorities has been to establish a strong administrative leadership team. Last week, for example, I appointed two new vice presidents, one for development and the other for communications. In addition, we have a search underway for a vice president for information technology and chief information officer. The search committee will begin reviewing applications in the next several weeks. I think we're making good progress on many fronts.
One of my first decisions as president was to appoint then Interim Provost Dana Dunn as Provost for a term of 18 months while we conducted a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis. Since that time, I have received many messages, letters and calls urging me to forgo a search and make Dana's appointment permanent. Now, with seven months of experience and after careful reflection, I am convinced that we could not find a more qualified or better candidate than Dana Dunn. It's clear to me that she has earned the respect and support of faculty and academic leaders throughout the campus. Moreover, her work in support of higher education in the State of Texas has brought credit and prominence to UTA. Finally, I have been deeply impressed with her keen understanding of the university, unwavering commitment to build academic excellence and dedication to serving and supporting our faculty. In short, she is a superb provost and my trusted colleague. Her leadership is needed.
Thus I am proud to announce that Dana Dunn will continue to serve as our Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Please join me in congratulating her and in supporting her exceptional contributions to building a stronger university. I look forward to working with her in the months and years ahead.
