Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Curriculum

The University of Texas at Arlington is accepting applications for the newly created position of Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Curriculum. The Vice Provost will report to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and will provide leadership and executive oversight of the University’s academic programs. The Office of the Provost is seeking a proven leader to articulate strategic vision for the development, review and enhancement of undergraduate and graduate education, the further development of the University College, and programs targeting student success at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Steers the newly-formed Division of Academic Programs and Curriculum by providing leadership, programmatic coordination, oversight, approval and support in the management of academic program development, new curriculum and degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and initiatives of particular concern to the institution.
  • Provides leadership and executive oversight for University College and its programs impacting student growth, retention, and timely graduation.
  • Works in partnership with assistant/associate vice provosts for undergraduate studies and graduate studies, and other academic administrators to maintain and enhance the development and approval processes for curriculum and other academic initiatives as established by the Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Develops policies and procedures for processing, tracking and evaluating the effectiveness of academic contractual/collaborative agreements.
  • Researches and analyzes academic policy issues, and implications of proposed academic policies.
  • Provides strategic consultation and participates as appropriate in formulating institutional responses to issues of critical importance to the Office of Academic Affairs.

Organizational Relationships

This position is a senior level administrator reporting directly to the Provost and serving as a member of the Provost’s Administrative Leadership team. The individual assuming this position interacts directly with the Provost, other Vice Provosts, and academic leadership in UT Arlington’s colleges and schools; additional interactions are anticipated with the President, the faculty, academic staff, and other university administrators, as well as outside regulatory and accrediting agencies.

The Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Curriculum supervises the Executive Director of the University College, the Assistant/Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and the Assistant/Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Studies.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess an earned doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and a minimum of seven years of successful experience in higher education, including a minimum of three years of demonstrated successful experience in the oversight of academic programs. Academic and professional credentials that include an outstanding record of achievement sufficient for appointment as a full professor with tenure in an academic department and membership on the graduate faculty are required. Must demonstrate knowledge and skill in higher education program development, knowledge of applicable approval processes for course and program initiation or modification, and outstanding communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation of diversity as well as the ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse community to reach a common goal.
