Fall Faculty orientation

It's not too early to mark your calendars for the all-faculty orientation scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2015.  Tenured, tenure-track, contingent and research faculty are all invited to join us that day. New faculty will be invited to a welcome breakfast and, following last year's successful "Top 10" list, we'll again offer three one-hour orientation sessions to share the top ten things all faculty need to know to start the year on a positive note. Stay tuned for opportunities for faculty development workshops and brown bags that week. Classes begin Thursday, August 27.

iThenticate Licenses available

UT Arlington has obtained an institutional license for iThenticate, an electronic tool that allows faculty to check their work against 50 billion web pages and 130 million content items, including 40 million works from 590 scholarly publishers. A growing number of journals are using iThenticate to check manuscripts submitted for consideration. The tool may be particularly useful for faculty co-authoring with students and those engaging multiple writers. If interested in obtaining access to iThenticate, please contact Ashley Zmau erms@uta.edu.  More information at http://library.uta.edu/database/use/ithenticate.

parking changes

Parking permits will be available August 1. Remember to order your auto or motorcycle permit through your MyMav account. The UT Arlington's Parking Committee approved several changes that will impact all faculty in the Fall. Please go to their website for more information http://www.uta.edu/pats/index.php

syllabi

As your prepare for Fall courses, we encourage you to review the syllabus template available on the Provost's website. The template provide an easy way to include all of the required information including ADA, the Honor Code, attendance policies and links for instructions for posting your syllabi on your Mentis profile.  Please remember that House Bill 2504 mandates that class syllabi and the CV of the instructor-of-record must be readily accessible on the institution’s website (specifically no more than three clicks from the main web-page and without password protection) by the first day of classes. The template is available at http://www.uta.edu/provost/administrative-forms/index.php

interdisciplinary research grants

President Vistasp Karbhari and Vice President for Research Duane Dimos encourage faculty to apply for new grants under the new Interdisciplinary Research Program (IRP). The IRP is intended to advance interdisciplinary research at UTA in alignment with the four guiding themes of the strategic plan: Health and the Human Condition, Sustainable Urban Communities, Global Environmental Impact, and Data-Driven Discovery. The maximum allowable budget for any one successful proposal is $20,000. IRP proposals must be submitted on or before June 15th and funds will be made available to each winning team on or before August 1st.  Teams can include contract faculty and graduate students but each team must include at least one tenured or tenure-track faculty member.  More Information is available at http://www.uta.edu/president/initiatives/irp.php

faculty writing groups

The Division of Faculty Affairs will be offering three faculty writing groups this summer.  All faculty of any rank, including contract faculty, are welcome to join. The groups meet weekly and use the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity Model (www.facultydiversity.org) to develop semester plans, writing goals, and accountability in reaching those goals. Join colleagues from various disciplines as we learn about each other's work and effectively use the summer to reach important goals.  The groups typically last  4-6 weeks.
