Faculty Affairs News 001 -- November 7, 2013

Welcome!

Welcome to the first edition of UT Arlington's Faculty Affairs News. On the first and third Thursday of each month, we will publish information about events, policies, and resources of interest to the faculty. Should you have any feedback about FAN, please contact Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs David Silva.

Engaging Students 2013

For those who attended this fall's Engaging Students event, the day was packed with presentations about ways in which to enhance participation in our classrooms, be it through the use of social media, the active participation of a subject area librarian, service learning, or team-based learning. For those who weren't able to participate in this year's workshop but who'd like to learn more about the presentations given, there are PDF files now available for viewing and downloading at the Engaging Students 2013 website.

REP/FDL submissions due December 3

Applications for Research Enhancement Program grants and for Faculty Development Leaves must be completed by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, December 3. For more information about either of these local initiatives, visit the Faculty Programs page.

Homecoming 2013

Are you looking for activities that will help you better connect with our students and the broader UT Arlington community? If so, consider the wide range of options associated with this year's Homecoming Week. Activities include a MavSpeaker Series talk by Anderson Cooper, the annual Homecoming Parade, men's and women's basketball games, a Homecoming Step Show, and fireworks. For a complete listing of Homecoming events, visit the "Spirited Home" page.

Commencement, Fall 2013

If you're planning on participating in your school or college's commencement ceremony this December, please be sure to check out the Fall 2013 Commencement Schedule. With seven -- yes, seven -- ceremonies spread over three days, you'll want to be sure that you're at College Park Center at the right time.

Faculty wishing to be part of the formal procession must come in full academic regalia: cap, tassel, gown and hood. The initial dealine for ordering regalia for December's ceremonies is Friday, November 15. Click here for an order form, which should then be delivered to the UT Arlington Bookstore, 400 Spaniolo Drive, Arlington,  TX  76010. For answers to specific questions about regalia rentals and purchases, phone: 817-272-2785, press "3" and ask to speak with Cindy about commencement.

Did you know about...

... UT Arlington's Employee Assistance Program (EAP)? The EAP can provide support for all UT Arlington employees, including members of the faculty, who may be facing personal and professional challenges that interfere with their work and undermine their quality of life. Concerns addressed by the EAP team include child care concerns, elder care concerns, parenting support, managing depression or anxiety, and time management. To learn more about how to access the services offered by our EAP, visit http://www.uta.edu/hr/employee-assistance/ or call 1-800-343-3822.
