Space Acquisition, Renovation, and Utilization Committees

Two committees have been created to efficiently meet the changing space needs of the UTA community.

(1) The Space Acquisition and Renovation Committee (SARC) is composed of the Provost, the Vice President for Administration and Campus Operations, and the Vice President for Research. The committee will receive recommendations related to the renovation of existing non-instructional space and proposals related to acquiring/constructing new non-instructional space. The process for submitting these requests is described below.

(2) The Instructional Space Utilization Committee (ISUC) reports to the SARC and focuses on instructional space. The ISUC will develop policies designed to maximize the use of all instructional space and make recommendations to the SARC for the renovation and reclassification of instructional space.

Process for Requesting Expansion Space and/or Renovations

(1) Space for new faculty and staff lines

Many of the requests each year for expansion space and for space renovation are linked to decisions to hire new faculty and staff. Going forward, all requests to hire a new faculty/staff member must be accompanied by a complete New Faculty/Staff Hire Space Request form. This form requires the academic unit to specify the proposed office location for the new hire as well as the location, if needed, of any additional work space (e.g., lab, studio). The form also requires an estimate of the proposed costs for the required space renovation. Requests will be evaluated on a quarterly basis.

(2) Renovations of Existing Space (Academic and non-Academic)

Unit heads will use the Space Renovation Request form to describe the nature of the proposed renovation and too provide a justification for the renovation. This form should be used for all space renovations that are not related to new faculty hires or instructional space. The request must be approved by the academic dean or director prior to submitting to SARC. Requests for renovations will be evaluated on a quarterly basis.

(3) Classroom Renovation Requests.

Requests to renovate classrooms or instructional laboratories should be submitted using the Classroom Renovation Request Form. Requests for renovations to instructional space will be evaluated by the ISUC. The ISUC will forward recommendations to the SARC for final approval and budgeting. Requests for renovations will be evaluated on a quarterly basis.

The downloadable forms on this page are Microsoft Word documents.
