ARLINGTON—The University of Texas at Arlington Department of Biology will offer a microbiology camp for high school students from 8 a.m. until noon, June 18-22.

The camp will challenge high school students to research and conduct experiments. The program is laboratory-based, but involves field work, which will require the students to actually collect samples from different sites on the University campus.

The students will have one intense week to complete the "Five I’s" of microbiology: inoculating, incubation, isolation, inspection and identification. They will become familiar with writing, recording and tracking scientific data, as well as working in teams. The fee is $200. Limited spaces are available and the application deadline is April 27.

Applications are available at http://cos.uta.edu/ssi. For more information, call Program Coordinator Dr. Michelle L. Badon at (817) 272-1511.
