Department of Biology offers Summer Science Institute for middle school students

ARLINGTON—The University of Texas at Arlington Department of Biology is hosting its Fifth Annual Biology Summer Science Institute, “Understanding the Sciences,” for students who have completed the sixth, seventh, or eighth grade.

“Understanding the Sciences” is an overview and hands-on experience with several different disciplines in the field of biology. The course is designed to promote a higher and deeper interest in the sciences at an early age. Students will be exposed to microbiology, molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, electron microscopy and forensic science. They will have the opportunity to visit the Planetarium at UT Arlington and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The sessions run from 8 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday, June 4 through 15, and the cost is $250. The application deadline is April 27 and enrollment is limited.
