Professor talks about monetary property rights of sports arenas
News Release — 10 April 2003
Job creation, increased tourism and civic pride are among the
economic benefits of building a new sports arena. But the benefits must
be weighed against the costs of a publicly funded facility to determine
economic justification. UTA Associate Economics Professor Craig Depken
considers an alternative approach that focuses on who holds the property
rights to the monetary benefits of a new stadium.
His talk on "The Economics of Sports Arenas: A Property Rights Approach" will be from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the 6th floor Parlor of the Central Library. To help explain this approach, Depken will use data from professional baseball during the 1990s.
The presentation is part of the Focus on Faculty series, sponsored by the UTA Libraries. For more information, contact Tommie Wingfield at 817-272-2658 or wingfield@uta.edu.
