Artist's ambitious sculpture represents flowering of knowledge

Art Professor David Keens' permanent "Blooms of Enlightenment" installation in the Euless Public Library features nearly five tons of steel and 62 large blown glass roundel forms. The largest pieces are more than 40 inches in diameter and weigh 30 pounds.

"It took months to learn to blow the glass forms as large as I felt the project required." said Keens, who spent three years creating the sculpture.

He has received UT Arlington's highest award for creative activity and a full National Endowment for the Arts Craftsman Fellowship. His work is in permanent collections in Japan, Turkey and throughout the U.S.
