Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest exists when a financial or other personal consideration may compromise, or appear to compromise, the design, conduct, or reporting of research. The Committee on Research Integrity (CRI) is charged with oversight of UTA's conflict of interest management program. Some requirements of this program, per federal law, are to maintain and enforce a policy on conflicts of interest, and to inform individuals of this policy. UTA and the CRI are responsible for knowing what conflicts might exist at the University and to manage, reduce, or eliminate those conflicts.
The Annual Conflict of Interest and Commitment Disclosure form must be completed annually by all UTA faculty, principal investigators on external grants and contracts, and individuals who have a significant financial interest in an entity in which the university conducts research, development, or scholarship related business. If a faculty member is a principal investigator who is responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research, or proposed for such funding, that faculty member must also identify the key personnel who are engaged in the project. Key personnel are identified as Co- investigators, investigators listed on an FDA Form 1572, or another member of the group identified on a grant application that has direct budget, publication, or decision making authority relating to the conduct of the research (this generally does not include undergraduate or graduate students, or post-doctoral fellows not listed as primary investigators on grants and contracts).
