SELECT AGENTS OR TOXINS
Currently, there are no research projects on the UT Arlington campus utilizing Select Agents or Toxins. Use of these materials will require involvement and approval by UT Arlington Administration. In addition, there is a lengthy and thorough approval process required through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). If you are considering using any of the agents or toxins as described by the CDC and/or USDA, please immediately notify the Environmental Health & Safety Office.
APPLICABILITY
The biological agents and toxins listed in the CDC and USDA’s Select Agent and Toxin List have the potential to pose a severe threat to public health and safety, to animal health, or to animal products.

REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES
The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) published final rules for the possession, use, and transfer of select agents and toxins (42 C.F.R. Part 73, 7 C.F.R. Part 331, and 9 C.F.R. Part 121) in the Federal Register on March 18, 2005.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regulates the possession, use, and transfer of select agents and toxins that have the potential to pose a severe threat to public health and safety. The CDC Select Agent Program oversees these activities and registers all laboratories and other entities in the United States of America that possess, use, or transfer a select agent or toxin.
