Human Subjects: CITI Training

To make registration easier, it is recommended that you PRINT THIS PAGE and keep it handy as a reference throughout the registration process.

If you have completed certification training in the responsible conduct of human subject research (e.g., IRB 101) within the last academic year, you are not required to complete the CITI modules at this time.

First Time Users of the CITI Training Program

1. Go to www.citiprogram.org and click on “Register for the CITI Course”
2. Under ALL OTHERS, click the drop-down arrow and drill down to “The University of Texas at Arlington;” Click Submit.
3. Where indicated, enter your UTA Username and Password information; Click Submit. (You will enter this same Username and Password each time you enter the program.)
4. Complete the CITI Registration Page, and then click on the “Submit the Information” button.
5. On this next page, go directly to Step 2 to select your group.   It will not matter if you are a faculty member, student or staff (e.g., if you would like to conduct non-clinical, social and/or behavioral research only, then select Group 2; if you are an IRB member, select Group 3, and so on.);  Submit
   
   

   The various groups indicated are:
   Group 1 - Biomedical Researchers (clinical researchers should register within this group)
   Group 2 - Social and Behavioral Researchers (non-clinical, social and or behavioral researchers register within this group)
   Group 3 - IRB Members (if you are a member of the UTA Institutional Review Board, register within this group)
   Group 4 – Data and Specimens Only (if you will only be collecting aggregate, de-identified data or specimens from banks or from other reserves, register within this group)

   
   
6. Congratulations!  You have arrived at the, “Learners Menu.”  Based on the Group you selected on the previous screen, the course content has been uploaded for you and is now ready for use.  From here you may enter the course [e.g., select, “Basic Course (required; Status Incomplete],” check for announcements, take brief refresher courses throughout the year, change your username or password, edit your contact information or change your Group. 
7. (If you have not already done so . . .) To begin the course select, “Basic Course (required; Status Incomplete].”  This Grade Book page will show you which modules you need to complete.
   
   

   *** IMPORTANT NOTE ***

8. It is important that you print the certificate by clicking on “ Print a certificate of completion” after finishing the test on the last module. The completion of compliance education in the ethical conduct of human subject research is required prior to protocol submission.

Additional Information:

• To gain access to the Optional Modules (not part of required training), click on “View the Grade Book” after completing the test on the last module. Scroll down. You will be able to see the scores of the modules you have completed and access the Optional Modules.
• If you have already registered in CITI, logged out and are now returning to continue onto another module, just enter your username and password. You will be forwarded to the last page you accessed.
