Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center
Description:  The Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center originally started as a natural history specimen collection at the University of Texas at Arlington. The collection was founded in 1956 by UTA professor emeritus William F. Pyburn. The primary purpose of the collection was to assist students in the classroom when unfamiliar aspects of animal anatomy or natural history were being discussed. For this purpose a variety of mammal, birds, reptile, and amphibian specimens were acquired. However, the collection also started to serve as a depository for specimens collected from field expeditions.

Autonomous Vehicles Laboratory
Behavioral Neuroscience and Neurophysiology Laboratory
Description:  The Behavioral Neuroscience and Neurophysiology Laboratory is a component of the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Arlington. The laboratory uses modern behavioral and electrophysiological paradigms that are designed to explore the underlying relationship between neuronal function and behavior. The Department of Psychology is a pure Experimental Psychology program, offering PhD students the choice of research focus in behavioral neuroscience, neurophysiology, cognitive and/or social/personality. Our program is especially noted for its strengths in experimental design and quantitative methodology in all areas of research.
BioMEMS Lab
Description:  BioMEMS is the application of MEMS technology in the field of Biomedical and Health Sciences. It is expected to revolutionize the way medicine is practiced and delivered. BioMEMS finds applications in the fields of microfluidics, drug delivery, transducers for surgical tools, etc. Low cost, reliability and reproducibility are the characteristics required for any successful manufacturing process. This holds true for an affordable MEMS manufacturing process also. We, at the BioMEMS Lab, aim to devise a system which will enable rapid manufacturing of affordable BioMEMS devices. This is being accomplished by integrating a Hot Embossing microfabrication system with a Femtosecond laser micromachining facility
Center for Advanced Polymer Research
Description: The Center for Advanced Polymer Research is involved in the devlopment of new polymeric materials for new applications. Research groups are focusing efforts in areas of electrically conductive polymers, ionically conductive polymers, potentially superconductive polymers, electroluminescent polymers and new methods for polymer processing, using graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and undergraduate students in research positions.
Center for Bilingual and ESL Education
Description:  The Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ES) program falls under the Center for Bilingual and ESL Education (CBEE). The main purpose of the Center is to increase the number of certified bilingual/ESL and early childhood teachers. To accomplish its goal, Center has established the following programs to support school districts in their efforts to promote equity among culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.In addition to the academic programs, the Center created an articulation agreement with the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) to facilitate the transfer of bilingual education students to UTA.To accomplish its goal, Center has established the following programs listed under Research/Services to support school districts in their efforts to promote equity among culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.
Center for Colloidal and Interfacial Dynamics (CCID)
Description:  The objective of this Center is to facilitate and coordinate the research efforts of faculty associates, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students interested in rate processes in colloidal systems and at interfaces. Such processes are relevant in chemistry, physics, geology, bio- and environmental sciences, and many areas of engineering.
Center for Community Service Learning
Description: Mission The mission of the Center for Community Service Learning is to enhance learning and civic responsibility through community engagement. Community service learning is essential to that mission. Objectives: Engage students at UTA in at least one community service-learning experience prior to graduation. Offer a continuum of community service opportunities at UTA, including a wide variety of community service-learning experiences, as well as extra-curricular and co-curricular community service experiences. Goals: To develop an infrastructure to support community service learning. To develop a critical number of faculty members willing to engage in community service learning, aid their colleagues in developing future community service-learning courses, and to promote community service learning on the campus. To develop programs that meet the needs of the students, in partnership with students and the community. To develop programs that meets the needs of faculty, students, and the community, in partnership with students and the community.
Center for Criminal Justice Research and Training
Description:  The Center for Criminal Justice Research and Training was established in 1977. Its main purpose has been to provide assistance to criminal justice agencies, governmental institutions and citizen groups concerned with the administration and operation of the criminal justice system. Under the leadership of its former director, Dr. James Stevens, the Center became known among criminal justice practitioners for its leadership role in providing support to the development and evaluation of criminal justice programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In an effort to continue Dr. Stevens' efforts the Center is committed to continue its efforts to develop partnerships with criminal justice agencies at the national and international level.The Center continues to conduct research evaluations of existing criminal justice programs while facilitating the academic training of law enforcement personnel. The Center for Criminal Justice Research and Training is also instrumental in providing research experience to graduate students interested in pursuing doctoral degrees in criminology or a related discipline. Dr. Butler is now serving as director of the Center for Criminal Justice Research and Training, continuing its role of leadership in the community. Center for Economic Development Research and Service (CEDRAS)
Description:  CEDRAS provides economic-development assistance to north-central and northeast Texas governments, nonprofit organizations and businesses by conducting and publishing research studies, and by disseminating relevant and timely economic-development data and information.The Center for Economic Development Research and Service was established with support from the Economic Development Administration, US Department of Commerce, at The University of Texas at Arlington, in 1994. it is located in the School of Urban and Public Affairs and complements the work of the school and its Institute of Urban Studies.
Center for Education Research
Description:  The Center for Research has established a range of research initiatives for both students and faculty. These initiatives draw on the expertise of those on the education faculty and those from the public schools. These initiatives have resulted in a series of activities including the establishment of the: Research Round Tables for faculty and students, and Annual College of Education Research Day for student research presentations. The aims of the Center are to support these activities by: bringing together public school educators and faculty to foster collaborative inquiry in schools through systematic investigations, fostering research which contributes to the existing body of knowledge in a discipline and examines social and psychological events to provide solutions to issues and problems which leads to greater understanding and improved practice resulting in student learning; extending the intellectual tools of pedagogical analysis to improve the processes of schooling; and disseminating research findings through discussion papers, journal writing, and conference presentations. More faculty presented on a variety of research topics at AERA as well in 2002 than in any time in our history.
Center for Elecronic Materials, Devices and Systems (CEMDAS)
Description:  Mission and Rationale The Center for Electronic Materials, Devices, and Systems was established to advance the technology and application of broadband, high-frequency solid-state devices that use microwave, millimeterwave, and optical bands as carriers. The Development of physical models and device processing is essential for designing millimeterwave integrated circuits and integrating lightwave elements into monolithic circuits. The Center produces and validates physical models of electron devices, then applies them to design circuits and subsystems. Research Facilities Several techmical facilities are available at the Center, each containing specialized equipment: a class-10/100 GaAs processing clean room with Karl Suss UV aligner, Heat-pulse rapid thermal processor, LSI scanning electron microscope, Varian e-beam evaporator and MRC sputter deposition system; a CAD/computer facility with numerous CAD packages; a molecular beam epitaxy facility with Varian GEN II modular molecular beam epitaxy system with e-beam evaporator and Auger analysis and photoluminescence system; a photo-mask facility with 250x step and repeat for contact masks; microwave facility with HP8510 and Hughes automated microwave network analyzers, 45 MHz to 60 GHz, and 90 to 100 GHz time domain reflectometry, and cascade wafer prober; and a machine shop. DC measurement equipment also is available, with capability for Keithley resistivity and hall measurements, HP C-V, DC circuit probing, and parameter analysis.
Center for Electron Microscopy
Description:  The Center for Electron Microscopy and related techniques. Course work and individual training are available for approved undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate students and faculty who wish to gain experience in or utilize electron microscopy and/or x-ray analysis in their research.
