Fall 2009 marks the beginning of Tim Ishii's sixth year at UT Arlington. Since then, the UTA Jazz Orchestra was the featured guest big band at the 2005 Coyote Jazz Festival in Weatherford, Texas and Tim was the featured artist/clinician with the Weatherford College Faculty Jazz Ensemble. In addition, The UT-Arlington Jazz Orchestra was selected from university/college jazz bands across the nation to participate in the 2005 and 2009 Addison Jazz Festival, Addison, Texas and in 2009 won the Gene Hall Award as the Outstanding College Jazz Ensemble of the Festival. Tim is sought after as a performer and clinician at the state and national level. He has made presentations and performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference, conducted numerous high school all-region jazz bands, and in January 2006, was the guest conductor of the New Mexico All-State High School Jazz Ensemble. In 2008 he was invited to conduct the Texas Community College All State Jazz Ensemble at TMEA. Tim maintains a busy freelance schedule and has performed with theDallas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and Texas Wind Symphony. He has backed numerous artists including: Natalie Cole, Temptations, Doc Severinson, Clark Terry, James Moody, Slide Hampton, Bob Mintzer, and many others. Tim is also a founding member of Thrascher, a contemporary saxophone quartet. The quartet has released two CD's and a third is planned for the near future. Tim is an artist/clinician for the Conn-Selmer Company.
