Honors and Awards
2003 Winner: Bolton-Kinnaird Prize of the Western History Association for the journal article of the year on Borderlands History. Prize: $500. The Award recognizes the best article on any phase of Borderlands history, from the Floridas to the Californias, from the sixteenth century to the present.
1999 Winner: Ben Lane Award for the best essay published by Vermont History in 1998. This award is sponsored by the Vermont Historical Society. Prize: $250
1999 Nominee: Chancellor's Council Teaching Award, The University of Texas at Arlington.
1992 Winner: Hendricks Manuscript Award for Inheritance and Family Life in Colonial New York City. This book was judged the best study for 1992 on the Dutch colonial experience in North America. The award was sponsored by the New Netherland Project, New York State Library, Albany. Prize: $1,000
1988 Winner: Essay Contest sponsored by the New York State Historical Commission and the New York State Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Consitution. Prize: $750 and publication of essay in New York History, July 1988
1981 Winner: New York State Historical Association Manuscript Award for the best book length manuscript dealing with the history of New York State. Prize: $1,000
