Description: FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY It is the intent of the National Park Service (NPS) to establish a Cooperative Agreement with The Town of Cranberry Isles Maine (Town) (Cooperator). The Cranberry Isles Fire Department (Department), through the Town, has sole jurisdiction for fire suppression operations in the geographic areas of Acadia National Park covered by this Agreement as follows: ? Coordinate all emergency services response on Great Cranberry Island, Little Cranberry Island and Sutton Island. This coordination includes receipt of emergency calls from the two E-911 Public Safety Answering Points (Hancock County Regional Communications Center and the Maine State Police Barracks, Orono) that service the Town and the Park. ? Respond to a report of fire within the boundaries of the Park with a qualified crew and the equipment necessary to conduct initial attack fire suppression operations. The definition of a qualified crew is a crew that meets or exceeds State firefighter certification standards. The NPS will work with the Town and the Department to coordinate fire suppression operations in the Park, obtain wildland fire training for Department firefighters and provide funding for wildland fire equipment, supplies and training to the Department through the Rural Fire Assistance (RFA) Program. These tasks will be carried out under individual task assignments to be issued under this basic agreement. Authority for the execution of agreements between the NPS and other agencies and instrumentalities for mutual aid and assistance in fire protection is contained in Public Law 84-46: The Reciprocal Fire Protection Act of May 27, 1955 (69 Stat. 66: 42 U.S.C. 1856-1856d), the Disaster Relief Act of May 22, 1974 (88 Stat. 495: 16 U.S.C. 1b) and the United States Department of Interior Departmental Manual (590 DM and 910 DM); and 16 U.S.C. ? 1g authorizes the Service to enter into cooperative agreements that involve the transfer of Service appropriated funds to State, local and tribal governments, other public entities, educational institutions, and private non-profit organizations for the public purpose of carrying out NPS programs; and Title IV of the Department of the Interior and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2001, Act of October 11, 2000, Pub. L. No. 106-291, 114 Stat. 922, 1006-1010 appropriated money for fire suppression operations, burned areas rehabilitation, hazardous fuels reduction, and rural fire assistance and which set forth provisions governing the money?s use.
