Appropriations Request for Funding in FY09


As we begin the FY09 Federal Appropriation process for requesting earmarks, there are several changes to note. Current budgetary pressures, the lingering potential for earmark reform, accelerated Congressional deadlines, and changes within the UT System necessitate changes in our internal timeline. In addition to our Congressional representatives asking that we submit requests earlier in the calendar year, earmark requests must now be reviewed and approved by the Chancellor and the Chairman of the Board of Regents prior to submission to Congress.

Accordingly, we will use the following timeline:

October 15, 2007 (close of business)
• Deans should submit appropriation requests to the Vice President for Research Office. Requests need to be submitted using the attached template. Please keep the description of the project section (“white paper”) to two pages or less. If more than one request is submitted from a college or school, the requests must be rank ordered by the Dean.

November 9, 2007
• Submission of rank ordered earmark requests to the University of Texas System Office of Federal Relations.

December, 2007
• Submission of requests to Congress.

February 25-27, 2008
• Visits by Team Arlington to Congressional offices in Washington, DC.

May, 2008
• Follow-up visits to Washington, DC.
