We are beginning the congressional earmark process for funding in FY08. The process will have the following timeline:
Submission Process:
10/31/06: Faculty should submit to their respective Deans a Appropriations Request Form before 10/31/06.

Please keep the description section of the request to 2 pages or less. If more than one request is submitted from a college or school then it would be helpful if they were rank-ordered.
While submitting the form several points must be noted regarding the congressional earmarks:
- The budget should range from $500,000 to $4 million.
- The request should not be for somethying that would ordinarily be funded by a grant or contract from a federal agency.
- The request should be for once only, seed funding to increase research capacity, or initiate a new thrust area, and thereby make the University of Texas at Arlington more competitive for normal feeral grants and contracts.
- Funding for personnel is highly discouraged.
- Earmark requests should not be written like a proposal, but like a prospectus to inform politicians as to what the funding will accomplish and why funding is essential to better the congressional district, the State of Texas, and the Nation.
- 11/11/06: Deans are to submit in rank order possible earmarks to the Vice President for Research.
Review and Selection Process:
- Mid November 2006: The Vice President for Research will discuss candidate earmarks with the University of Texas System Office of Federal Relations and Legislative Aides as well as University Provost and President..
- December 2006, submission of selected earmark request to the University of Texas System Office of Federal Relations.
- March 2007: visits by Team Arlington and others,as appropriate, to Washington D.C.
- May 2007: follow-up visits to Washington D.C.
