The University of Texas at Arlington
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
University Award for
Outstanding Research Achievement or Creative Accomplishment
(Since January 1, 2001)
Purpose of Award
The University Award for Outstanding Research Achievement or Creative Accomplishment recognizes a faculty member for achieving a particularly important research or creative accomplishment during the past three years (that is) since January 1, 2001/
Eligibility
Any full-time, regular faculty member of The University of Texas at Arlington is eligible to be nominated for this award. Evidence of research or scholarly achievement must have been published since January 1, 2001, and artistic or creative accomplishments must have appeared in a public form appropriate to the nominee’s discipline since January 1, 2001. This award is not limited to junior faculty and should not be construed to be secondary to the University Award for Distinguished Record of Research or Creative Activity.
Nominations
Nominations may be made by any full-time, regular member of The University of Texas at Arlington faculty, but each nomination must be reviewed by and transmitted through the departmental Research Committee of the nominee’s department. In the case of units not organized into departments, nominations must be directed through and reviewed by the school-level Research Committee. The departmental or school committee will rank the nominees from the unit and forward them to the Interim Vice President for Research for review by the University Research Committee.
University Research Committee Selection Criteria
The emphasis of the University Research Committee in selecting faculty to be recognized for an Outstanding Research Achievement or Creative Accomplishment award is on quality and importance of the research or creative accomplishment rather than on quantity of publications or pages, number of performances or gallery showings, or number of creative objects produced. Therefore, all nominations and supporting documentation should focus on the importance of a nominee’s research or creative activity and the quality of the contribution that the person has made in his or her field.
Nomination Procedure and Documentation
Each nomination received by the University Research Enhancement Advisory Committee must include the five items listed below.
1. A one-page (maximum) letter of nomination from the nominator including a brief description of the
specific research achievement or creative accomplishment for which the nominee should be recognized.
2. The nominee’s curriculum vita including the nominee’s citation index entry information, if applicable.
3. Copies of the nominee’s publications and other appropriate supporting documentation that apply
directly to the research achievement or creative accomplishment for which the nomination is being
made.
4. A one-page (maximum) letter from the appropriate (department or school) Research Committee
summarizing the Committee’s basis for support of the nomination. The Committee must also state a
ranking of the nomination if more than one nomination for the Outstanding Research Achievement or
Creative Accomplishment award is reviewed by the Committee this year.
5. A completed cover sheet (copies available in the Office of Research and Graduate Studies).
Incomplete Nominations
Incomplete nominations and nominations which have not been reviewed by the appropriate Research Committee will not be considered by the University Research Committee and will not be returned to the nominator until after the final selection process has been completed.
Nomination Deadline
One copy of the nomination and all supporting materials must be received in the Office of the Interim Vice President for Research no later than 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 9, 2004.
