The University of Texas at Arlington
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The University Award for Distinguished Record of Research or Creative Activity recognizes a faculty member for achieving a distinguished record of research and scholarship or creative activity over an extended period of time.
Any full-time, regular faculty member of The University of Texas at Arlington is eligible to be nominated for this award. Evidence of research or scholarly achievement must be in published form, and evidence of artistic or creative accomplishment must be in a form appropriate to the nominee’s discipline.
Nominations may be made by any full-time, regular member of The University of Texas at Arlington faculty, but each nomination must be reviewed by and transmitted through the departmental Research Committee of the nominee’s department. In the case of units not organized into departments, nominations must be directed through and reviewed by the college-level Research Committee. The departmental or college committee will rank the nominees from the unit and forward them to the Vice President for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies for review by the University Research Committee.
The emphasis of the University Research Committee in selecting faculty to be recognized for a Distinguished Record of Research or Creative Activity award in on quality and importance of the research or creative accomplishment rather than on quantity of publications or pages, number of performances or gallery showings, or number of creative objects produced. Therefore, all nominations and supporting documentation should focus on the importance of a nominee’s research or creative activity and the quality of the contribution that the person has made in his or her field.
Each nomination received by the University Research Committee must include the five items listed below.
1. A one-page (maximum) letter of nomination from the nominator outlining the basis for the nomination.
2. The nominee’s curriculum vita including the nominee’s citation index entry information, if applicable.
3. Copies of the nominee’s major publications and other appropriate supporting documentation of the nominee’s scholarly achievement or creative activity (i.e., reviews of published work or creative activity).
4. A one-page (maximum) letter from the appropriate (departmental or college) Research Committee
summarizing the Committee’s basis for support of the nomination. The Committee must also state a
ranking of the nomination if more than one nomination for the award is reviewed by the Committee for
any one award year.
5. A completed cover sheet (copies available in the Office of Research and Graduate Studies).
Incomplete nominations and nominations which have not been reviewed by the appropriate Research Committee will not be considered by the University Research Committee and will not be returned to the nominator until after the final selection process has been completed.
Nomination Deadline
One copy of the nomination and all supporting materials must be received in the Office of the Vice President for Research no later than 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 9, 2004.
