Your Voice Is Important

You do not have to be a Representative or an Alternate to attend or speak at the meetings. All employees are encouraged to attend. We would like to hear input from all UT Arlington Staff.

Meetings are held at 3:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Student Congress Chambers, located in the lower level of the University Center. Participation as a Representative or an Alternate in the Council is very important. The Staff Advisory Council is an integral part of the policy making arm of the University. Elected members of the Council represent the needs and desires of each constituency. Working together, we can make a difference in the lives of the UTA Community.

UT Arlington looks to van-pooling to help with gas crunch

The University of Texas at Arlington is partnering with the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) to help solve air quality in the Fort Worth-Dallas area and the skyrocketing price of gasoline that is imposing a hardship on commuting employees and students. Although Arlington is the largest city in the United Sates without public transportation, The T has vanpooling programs that can save the commuter an estimated $8,128 annually, based on a 55-mile roundtrip commute. Vanpooling also helps reduce dangerous ozone levels that hurt air quality and public health. The T also maintains a database that can help in establishing carpools. Many people who might consider a ride-sharing program are deterred by concern about emergencies: a child getting sick at school or a work issue that demands unplanned overtime. Van pool participants need not worry because The T has a “Guaranteed Ride Home Program (GRHP). Participants receive GRHP calling cars that entitle the holder to call Yellow Cab to be returned home or to a park-and-ride lot for a $5 copayment. The T covers the balance. The campus community will have numerous opportunities, including upcoming registrations, staff advisory committee events and employee orientations, to fill out a “Rideshare Commute Options” card, the first step to joining a ridesharing program. The Dallas Morning News recently interviewed vanpoolers on their experiences in the program. Read the story at this Web site.
