Safety on the Campuses

The UT Arlington campus and its satellite locations are monitored and protected by a combination of police officers and personal security officers.

The driving force behind our security initiatives rests in our Police Department. Its authorized strength of 128 total personnel is focused completely on serving and protecting anyone who steps foot on our campus. The department includes 39 sworn police officers, 56 public safety officers, and nine communications officers. The Police Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Police officers at UT Arlington have completed The University of Texas System Police Academy or other state-approved academy and are licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. The department is also fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the International Association for Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. In addition to the academy, officers receive 15 weeks of field training and a minimum of 40 hours of in-service training every two years, as required by law. Public safety officers complete an eight-week field training program. Communications officers also complete a 40-hour state-certified training program and a 15-week field training program.

The department’s police officers are commissioned by The University of Texas System Board of Regents. As peace officers, they have the same authority to detain and arrest as municipal police officers.
