The driving force behind our security initiatives rests in our Police Department. Its authorized strength of 110 total personnel is focused completely on serving and protecting anyone who steps foot on our campus. The department includes 40 sworn police officers, 40 personal security officers, and nine communications officers. The Police Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Police officers at UT Arlington
have completed The University of Texas System Police Academy and are
licensed by the Texas Commission on Licensing and Officer Standards in
Education. The department is also fully accredited by the International
Association for Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. In addition to
the academy, officers receive 14 weeks of field training and a minimum
of 40 hours of in-service training every two years, as required by law.
Personal security officers and communications officers complete an
eight-week field training. Communications officers also complete a
40-hour state-certified training program.
The department’s police officers are commissioned by The University of Texas System Board of Regents. As peace officers, they have the same authority to detain and arrest as municipal police officers.
