- "Pharmacogenetics in Geriatrics and Adult Palliative Care"
This educational activity is designed for registered nurses and is devoted to discussions of the genetics of drugs commonly used in geriatrics and palliative care. Faculty will identify specific instances in which pharmacogenetic information might be used in treatment planning and this can help nurses to support the best care outcomes for each patient.

- “Current Ethical Issues Related to Genomics in Health Care”
Involving a Panel with members representing Institutional Review Boards, hospital chaplaincy services, and the legal profession, this educational session for registered nurses will present current views on the ethical, legal, and social issues related to genomics in healthcare. Nurses will be able to further their recognition of these ethical issues and explore how they can support patients and families appropriately. Audience participation, using the Second Life Chat function, will be encouraged.

Purpose: To update nurses on the role of genomics in pharmacotherapy. To review ethical and social issues that have emerged in health care as a result of advances in human genomics.
Objectives:
- Session One: Discuss the role of genomics in pharmacotherapy.
- Session Two:
- Evaluate arguments that support or oppose current practice in regard to ownership of human tissue or genetic material harvested during surgery or donated to research.
- Identify specific instances in which the U.S. system of gene patents has had adverse impacts on patients.
- Discuss provisions and limits of federal legislation that protects citizens from genetic discrimination.

You must register to receive continuing education units. There is a FEE to register to earn contact hours. The fee is $15 for EACH session.
