Finding Places
There are literally thousands of places to go in Second Life, for almost any activity or environment you can imagine.
In all that abundance, how can you find anything?
- The Second Life Destination Guide or the web-based World Map
- From the sidebar:
- Home (Second Life icon)
- Destination Guide
- View the Destination Guide and visit its locations from within Second Life
- World Map
- The map will center on the location where you are, but you can manually move the map (left-click and hold on the map and then drag it around) and also zoom in or out to see more.
- Left click anywhere on the map to fix a location and then click Teleport to go to the location you've fixed. Pay attention to where you click on the map! If you click on what looks like a building, you'll land in or on top of the building. Aim for something that looks like open land or a road or sidewalk.
- Map Search: the search box will look for the names of sims or islands, which is useful if you know the name of the one you're looking for.
- Destination Guide
- Home (Second Life icon)
- Inworld Search:
- Enter search terms into the search box at the top right of your screen
- Then you can filter your search with "Places" or "Events" to find places to go.
- Try a "Classifieds" search also, if you are looking for shopping locations
- Profile Picks:
- If you look at someone's profile, switch to their "Picks" tab. This is a place where they can highlight locations.
- Web sites and blogs
- There are hundreds of people who regularly blog on Second Life topics. Often, they feature locations and will include a link to that location. You can click those links in a web browser and then teleport in Second Life to the location. One blog to check is New World Notes.
