McNair Scholars profit from a considerable array of services ranging from free UTA transcripts for program-related use to a $3,000 summer research internship stipend. Such benefits allow participants multiple opportunities to develop their academic and professional potential and to realize their dream of attaining the Ph.D. and entering academia. Scholars enjoy the following benefits:
  • Participation in the McNair Summer Research Internship (under the supervision of a faculty mentor) during summer prior to graduation (stipend of $3,000)
  • Establishing a relationship with a faculty research mentor in Scholar's intended area of study
  • Three (3) credit hours of independent study related to summer research.
  • Improved research, writing and presentation skills
  • Publication of research summary in the UTA McNair Research Journal
  • Possible publication of research paper in a professional journal
  • Conference attendance within and outside of Texas (often including Graduate School Fairs)
  • Guidance with the graduate school application process (program selection, funding, writing the personal statement, etc.)
  • Graduate school visits (top one or  two choices after admission to graduate program)
  • Scholar's name and intended area of graduate study sent to graduate programs throughout the United States (who then send student relevant information/application materials)
  • Free GRE prep courses (for GRE General Test)
  • Free GRE discount (50 %)  vouchers (for General Test and Subject Tests)
  • Free UTA transcripts for program-related use

  • Eligibility to apply for various McNair application fee waivers and fellowships to fund graduate study (including the McNair Graduate Assistance Package--the M-GAP--at UTA)
