McNair Computer Lab
The McNair program has a small computer lab (containing
two PCs) available to Scholars to check e-mail, work on class assignments, practice for the GRE, write summer research papers, and explore graduate programs and fellowships. We ask that students limit their daily printout to 30 pages.
The McNair program also lends two laptops to its Scholars for academic use. Only Scholars in good standing (active program participants) may borrow a laptop. During the fall and spring semesters, the borrowing period is seven days . Due to increased demand during the summer internship, the borrowing period is limited to four days between July 1 and August 15 . During fall and spring semesters, Scholars may borrow the laptop for no more than a total of three weeks (with one full week between borrowing periods) unless they receive special permission from the McNair assistant director. Prompt return of the laptop is considered in future lending decisions. We suggest that students put their name on a waiting list, if they anticipate the need to use a McNair laptop.
The McNair laptops are administered by the SOAR Technology Specialist (located in the Student Support Services computer lab). He will provide brief laptop training for first-time users and require that Scholars read and sign the McNair laptop borrowing agreement. Scholars must return the laptop to the SOAR Technology Specialist on the designated return date. He will inspect it and then give the borrower clearance on the equipment. Please be aware that Scholars are not allowed to download software onto McNair laptops. In addition, Scholars may not take laptops out of the state and must assume responsibility for damaged or misplaced equipment.
Be advised that the Technology Specialist's hours for
