The challenges and opportunities of 21st century civic life are informed by the study of social studies disciplines such as history, political science, geography, and economics. Despite the importance of social studies education for promoting informed democratic citizenship and global understanding, the subject area is often neglected or misunderstood.
The Center for Social Studies Education at the University of Texas at Arlington serves a critical need in the state of Texas, nationally, and internationally to advance social studies education research, teacher preparation, and outreach to K-12 learners and their teachers.
