School of Social Work at UT Arlington
Welcome from the Dean
Dean Santos H. Hernández, Ph.D., LMSW-AP
Welcome and thank you for your interest in the UT Arlington School of Social Work.
As we reflect over the history of the Social Work profession, we find a legacy of accomplishment in working to alleviate human distress through individual and social interventions. Social Work is dedicated to improving the human condition through interventions at the individual, group, family, community and societal level. Social Workers seek to enhance the social functioning of the client groups with whom they work while working to advance social and economic justice and alleviate mechanisms of oppression for at-risk groups in society.
For bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level social work students, our School offers challenging educational courses designed to meet their practice needs while instilling the value orientations of the profession. The three programs engage students in learning theories and developing skills that will allow them to deliver social services at the direct practice or administrative and community level more effectively while providing leadership for the profession. Classes are organized such that both didactic and experiential learning methods are utilized.
The School is committed to life-long learning and seeks to provide a learning atmosphere that supports reflection, personal development, and professional growth. Faculty are practitioner scholars dedicated to good teaching while maintaining a high level of academic and professional involvement which includes research, professional development activities, practice, and consultation. Many of our faculty serve on boards or are otherwise involved with local, state or national agencies, and professional associations.
I encourage you to learn more about our School by browsing through these Web pages. Your comments and questions are welcomed, and we hope to hear from you soon.
Respectfully,
